Mezcal Wares
David produces 1-3 oz. copitas & botellas — traditional vessels for the drinking of mezcal. The inspiration for this body of work, as with many creative processes, began with a partnership.
Two years ago, David met Lou Bank, a national expert in the production and nuances of mezcal, a distilled liquor made from blue agave plant. Lou is a Board member of S.A.C.R.E.D. (Saving Agave for Culture, Recreation, Education and Development), a non-profit organization that raises money to support and promote the production of mezcal in small impoverished communities in the region of Oaxaca, Mexico. Funds are raised primarily through mezcal tasting events held in the United States. Lou travels frequently to Mexico to purchase mezcal from the best mezcallaros in the country. David has been providing him with wood-fired copitas for these events.
